Until we meet again

We said our earthly farewell to Papa today.  It was a difficult day.  We each know he is in a better place.  The service was just what he would have wanted.  Great singing, wonderful preaching, and a room full of family and friends.

"When I get where I'm going" by Brad Paisley, "Amazing Grace", and "Go Rest High on that Mountain" were all played at the service.  As each song played, I cried but couldn't help but smile as I remembered how much Papa enjoyed music.  He loved to sing, he loved to play his guitar, and music was just a part of who he was.

Bro. Gillis preached a wonderful message.  He reminded friends and family of the devotion and love he showed to Granny, his children, grand-children, and great grand-children.  He talked about that Papa had more loves in his life then things he didn't love.  Papa never spoke a harsh word, he spoke kindly of everyone.  Always willing to lend a hand.  He then reminded the congregation of Papa's one desire, and that was for each and every person he knew to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  Regardless of your denomination, we all have the choice to be in Heaven when our time comes.  Bro. Holbrooks told about his last visits with Papa.  Papa told him at each visit, I'm ready to go.  Bro. Holbrooks then mentioned that as he visited Papa that he noticed something was missing.  That something was fear.  Papa had no fear of dying.  He understood that his time was coming, and he knew that when his time came that he would be in Heaven.  I remember being a child and fearing death, but knowing that I'm saved like Papa, there is no reason to fear.  I am so grateful for the fact that Papa was not afraid.  It's a peace.

Bro. Gillis recited the 23rd Psalm as we stood by the grave.  He talked about the peace, and comfort that the Lord can provide.  He then quoted a scripture to Granny.  That scripture was Psalm 30:5  Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.  Grieving a loved one is fine but God intends for us to find joy once again.  I pray for Granny's joy.  I can't imagine the pain she is going through not having her best friend of fifty-nine years.   Her life dedicated to his every desire.  I have faith that God is going to give her the peace she needs.  I know she will find her joy once again.

Welcome home Papa...welcome home!

Oh, Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear of your loss, but joyful at Heaven's gain of your Papa Joe. No more pain, no more sorrow for him, only Jesus and lots of joy.

The service sounds wonderful. My thoughts and prayers are with your Granny; may she find peace in her last years on this earth.
